Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1930). Russian and Soviet artist, painter and graphic artist, representative of post-futurist fine art in Russia. Head of the Fine Arts Department of the People's Commissariat for Education in 1918-1920. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and at the Vitti Academy with A. Martin, C. Van Dongen and E. Anglada in 1906-1930. He worked in the following genres: landscape, portrait, still life. Imitating the Impressionists in early landscapes, in which textural searches were already noticeable, the artist began to paint works in a futuristic sense. Shterenberg was faced with a problem, the solution of which took him away from futurism to cubism - the problem of texture and volume. The main goal of the artist was to convey the real three-dimensionality in the painting through various textural treatments of a two-dimensional plane (for example, “Sourdough”, etc.). Among Shterenberg's students are such famous Russian artists as A. A. Deineka, Yu. I. Pimenov, A. A. Labas, P. V. Williams, A. D. Goncharov and others. Participant of all-Union and international exhibitions. The artist’s works are in museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Zhitomir, as well as in private collections.
