Soviet, Russian sculptor, teacher. Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts from 1988 to 2003. Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1975). Hero of Socialist Labor (1985). People's Artist of the USSR (1977). Laureate of the Lenin Prize (1961) and the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1950). Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1937-1941 he studied at the Moscow Institute of Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and Art Criticism. The author of more than 70 monuments and memorials installed in many cities of the country and abroad. He created a large number of sculptures of outstanding figures of the Communist Party, the Soviet state, military leaders, heroes of the Soviet Union and Socialist Labor. Together with the vice-president of the Academy of Arts M.G. Manizer Kerbel created the death mask of I.V. Stalin. Kerbel's monuments to shipbuilders at the River Station in Moscow, Professor I.M. Sechenov, Hero of the Soviet Union Marshal F.I. Tolbukhin, militiamen of the Frunzensky District of Moscow, doctors - heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow and many others are widely known.
