The Ural Iron Foundry was founded in 1778 by merchant Illarion Lushnin on the Kusa River, 28 versts from Zlatoust. The plant produced its first products in 1789. In 1789-1811. was leased from A.A. Knauf. In 1811 it was transferred to the treasury and became part of the Zlatoust mountain district. From the middle of the 19th century, along with the Kasli plant, it produced small plastic items made of cast iron, distinguished by a high technical and artistic level. Experienced molders invited from Kasli taught the first group of Kusa workers the intricacies of molding and finishing products. Among the first masters of the artistic casting workshop were: molders F. Ikonnikov, P. Shalanov, P. Meshalkin, G. Smolin, V. Zavoevanov, V. Saburov, chasers V. Dyatlov, I. Zubov, V. Petukhov. The workshop was headed by N. Murzin. Kusinsky artistic casting soon received recognition at all-Russian and international exhibitions: a commendable review in Copenhagen (1883), a silver medal in Stockholm (1897), a diploma from the All-Russian Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896), an honorary diploma in Glasgow (1901), the highest awards at exhibitions in Milan (1906), Omsk (1911). Art products were cast according to the models of major Russian and foreign sculptors: P. K. Klodt, E. A. Lansere, A. L. Ober, F. P. Tolstoy, talented Kasli masters. The factory catalog of 1913 names 243 products, of which 22 were prepared according to the models of the Kusin master F. O. Vasenin (1876-1923), a graduate of the Stroganov Art School. In 1918, Kusa foundries switched to producing cabinet items - more than 400 items; later they cast busts of leaders and heroes of the revolution, and also continued to produce products based on models of the 19th - early 20th centuries. A special order (brackets and grilles) was carried out in 1935-1936. for the Moscow metro. During the Soviet years, Kusa casting was exhibited at many exhibitions in the USSR and abroad. In the post-war years, the production of artistic castings decreased significantly, and new models almost stopped arriving. Currently operates as the Kusinsky Machine-Building Plant.
