Sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR (1958), Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Arts (since 1947); Doctor of Art History (1939). The son of the painter G.M. Manizer. From 1899 he attended primary school at the Central School of Technical Drawing of Baron Stieglitz in St. Petersburg, studied in the workshop of V.E. Savinsky (1908-1909). He graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of St. Petersburg University (1909-1913), and at the same time studied sculpting with the sculptor I.I. Andreoletti; graduated from the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts (1911-1916), where he first studied with G.R. Zaleman, from 1913 - with V.A. Beklemishev, organically assimilating the traditions of the Russian academic school. He lived permanently in Moscow since 1941. The first Moscow work was the relief “Worker” (cement, 1920-1921, now on the facade of Petrovsky Passage). He participated in the sculptural design of the Moscow metro stations "Revolution Square" (1937-1939; 20 paired compositions in small corner niches) and "Izmailovsky Park" (1944; sculptures of partisans), created monuments distinguished by clear completeness of contours and volume: I.E. Repin on Bolotnaya Square (1958), bust of I.P. Pavlova in front of the Moscow State University building on Vorobyovy Gory (1954), tombstone of the artist G.G. Ryazhsky at the Vvedensky cemetery (1954). USSR State Prize (1941, 1943, 1950). He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery.
