Born in 1952 in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Printing Institute in 1975. A rare way of thinking in painting today - genre painting is the basis of Lev Tabenkin's work. However, the genre is read in his works in an anti-domestic vein. The Renaissance greatness of the heroes and at the same time the wild, sometimes rough expression, the heavy pressure of the flesh, brought into ordinary scenes from life - in the subway, dancing, on a walk - bring poetry and power to his paintings. The artist's favorite objects are grotesque images of animals and human passions, which symbolize freedom, strength, suffering and weakness. Lev Tabenkin is one of the few artists who consistently work in classical easel painting, where the painting does not become a decorative part of the interior, and strives to actualize his ideas without trying to go into radical forms. Ideas, power, picturesqueness - this is what puts his art on par with the most famous artistic names of our era. Tabenkin was part of a group of Moscow artists who made a splash at the 17th youth exhibition - it included E. Dybsky, B. Markovnikov, E. Gore, M. Kantor, and others. Participant of the Moscow Sotheby's auction in 1988. Since 1988, L. Tabenkin has participated in numerous exhibitions in prestigious museums and galleries in Europe. His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and many museums in Russia, Germany, in private collections in Russia and abroad.
