Soviet Russian painter, member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists (until 1992, the Leningrad Union of Artists), representative of the Leningrad school of painting. From 1949 to 1956, he studied at the Leningrad Secondary Art School of the Academy of Arts. In 1962, he graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (Painting Department, A.A. Mylnikov's monumental painting workshop). Among Oleg Tatarnikov's classmates were Vitaly Tyulenev, Yuri Penushkin, and Yuri Pavlov. Since 1962, he has been a regular participant in city, regional, and national exhibitions. Since 1967, he has been a member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation (Painting Section). He worked in monumental and easel painting, working with the Leningrad branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR and the Combine of Painting and Decorative Arts. He created numerous monumental murals for the interiors of public buildings throughout the USSR (including the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station, 1964; the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Municipal Housing and Utilities Office, 1965; the Kandalaksha Municipal Housing and Utilities Office, 1966; the Kola Nuclear Power Plant in Polyarnye Zori, 1976; and the Tula Palace of Culture, 1984). Oleg Tatarnikov gained recognition as a master of landscape, portrait, and genre painting. The theme of medical workers was particularly significant in his work. Tatarnikov created a whole series of paintings, celebrating the image of nurses. Oleg Tatarnikov's works are included in the collections of the State Russian Museum, the Museum of St. Petersburg Art of the 20th and 21st Centuries, the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, and other Russian museums, as well as private collections in Russia and abroad.
