Toidze Irakli Moiseevich (1902 - 1985)

Soviet painter and graphic artist. People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1980). Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1951). Winner of four Stalin Prizes (1941, 1948, 1949, 1951). He studied with his father, the famous artist and architect M. Toidze. In 1930 he graduated from the Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Creates a series of posters during the Great Patriotic War (“Under the banner of Lenin - forward to the West!” (1941), “For the Motherland!” (1943), “Let’s free Europe from the chains of fascist slavery!” (1945). His poster “The Motherland is Calling!” (1941) became world famous. He also acted repeatedly as a book illustrator (illustrations for the books “History of Georgia" (1950) and “Anthology of Georgian Poetry” (1948)).
