Painter, graphic artist. Born into a peasant family. Until 1868 he studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists. In 1868 he made a trip to Italy. In 1868–1875 he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts, first as a volunteer, and from 1870 as a permanent student in the historical painting class of P. M. Shamshin, B. P. Villevalde, F. A. Bruni, F. I. Jordan, K. B. Venig, T. A. Neff. During his studies, he was awarded medals: in 1869 - a small incentive medal for a drawing, in 1870 - a large and small silver medal for a drawing and a sketch from life, in 1871 - a large silver medal for a sketch from life, in 1873 - a small gold medal for the painting “David Plays the Harp before Saul.” In 1875, for a program for a large gold medal “The Apostle Paul explains the dogmas of faith in the presence of King Agrippa, his sister Veronica and proconsul Festus,” he received the title of class artist of the 1st degree without being awarded a medal. The Council of the Imperial Academy of Arts petitioned to grant the artist a pensioner's trip abroad with the condition that he complete a scientific course, but Tvorozhnikov did not fulfill this condition, receiving a diploma from the Academy only in 1880. He lived in St. Petersburg. In 1876–1878 he participated in the painting of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow; in 1883 he was awarded a gold medal for four paintings on themes of Ecumenical Councils, made for the Temple. He painted images for the iconostases of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg and for the church in Astrakhan. In the 1880s he turned to the everyday genre. In the summer months he worked on sketches for genre paintings in the Tver province. He took part in exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1870–1894, with interruptions), the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1888), the World Exhibition in Chicago (1893), and the International Exhibition in Venice (1897). Since 1890 - member and exhibitor of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists. In 1917–1918 he exhibited his works at the 45th exhibition of the TPHV. From 1895 (to 1918) he taught at the Imperial Academy of Arts, from 1897 - professor-head of the workshop, in 1898-1918 - full-time professor in the full-scale class. In 1906, for his fame in the artistic field, he was awarded the title of academician. Tvorozhnikov’s works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum and others.
