Studied at VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN with A. Osmerkin, R. Falk, D. Shterenberg. After graduating from the institute in 1930, he was a member of the OST association, from 1932 in the Isobrigade association (later he was its chairman), then a member of the TIGI brigade of artists (V.P. Tyagunov, I. Ivanovsky, M. Gurevich, A. Igumnov). In 1930, V. Tyagunov participated in exhibitions of Soviet art in America, Germany (Berlin) and Austria (Vienna).In 1933-1934. participated in expeditions on the icebreakers "Krasin" and "V.I. Lenin". At the 1934 exhibition in Moscow, his “Arctic” works received universal recognition. Member of the Union of Artists, member of the Moscow Association of Artists (1932). Since 1947, he has been invariably elected as a member of the board of the Moscow Union of Artists. In 1949 - executive secretary of the board of the Ministry of Agriculture. He was repeatedly elected as a delegate to republican and all-Union congresses of the Union of Artists, and was a member of the board of the USSR Art Fund. Since 1966, he was the chief artist of the Noginsk workshop of the Moscow Regional Art Fund. The artist’s works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Arctic Museum, museums in Murmansk, Nukus, etc.
