Uspensky received his artistic education at the Technical Drawing School (formerly Stieglitz), where he studied from 1911 to 1917. In 1919 he organized an art school in Petrograd and directed it until 1924. In the 1920s and 30s, Uspensky worked a lot as a graphic artist for various newspapers and magazines, such as Behemoth, Beach, Smekhach, etc. From 1930 to 1934 he taught at the Academy of Arts, and in 1933-41 - at the art workshop of the Institute of the Peoples of the North in Leningrad. However, Ouspensky's greatest fame came from his work in the field of art glass. Most of the glass works were made by Uspensky in 1940-41.
