Vasilkovsky Sergey Ivanovich (1854, Izyum, Kharkov province - 1917, Kharkov).

He took painting lessons from D. Bezperchy and studied in the landscape class of the Academy of Arts with M. Klodt (1876-1885). In 1883 he was awarded two large silver medals, in 1884 - a small gold medal, and in 1885 - a large gold medal and the right to a pensioner's trip abroad. In 1886-1888 traveled to France, Germany, England, Spain, Italy, North Africa. Participant of exhibitions since 1885. Outstanding landscape painter. He painted genre paintings on themes of Russian and Ukrainian history. Author of historical panels for the Poltava zemstvo. He created a number of portraits of historical figures of Ukraine. He studied ethnography. Together with N. Samokish, he published the album “From Ukrainian Antiquity” (1900), “Motives of Ukrainian Ornament” (1912). He was a member of the Society of Russian Watercolor Painters (since 1892) and the Petrograd Society of Artists (since 1894). The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many Russian and Ukrainian museums.
