Veshilov, Konstantin Aleksandrovich (1878, St. Petersburg – 1945)

Russian artist, painting on themes from Russian and ancient history. From 1893 to 1896, he studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists, from 1896 to 1898 at the school of Princess M. Tenisheva, and from 1898 to 1904 at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in the workshop of I.E. Repin. After graduating from the Academy, he was awarded a two-year pension. From 1912, he served as an artist for the Naval Ministry. He traveled to Egypt, Palestine, Italy, and France, meeting with Maxim Gorky on the island of Capri. He received a prize at the A. Kuindzhi Competition. Several of the artist's paintings were purchased by Empress Maria Feodorovna. His works were reproduced in the magazines Niva, Ogonyok, Rodina, and Solntse Rossii. In 1914, he became head of the set design department at the Literary and Artistic Society Theatre. He participated in the Spring Exhibitions at the Academy of Arts and in the Peredvizhniki exhibitions. From 1922, he lived and worked in France, and from the mid-1930s, in the United States. His works are in the Russian Museum and other museum collections.
