Vesnin Alexander Alexandrovich (1883-1959)

Russian and Soviet architect, theater artist and teacher. Honorary member of the USSR Academy of Construction and Architecture (1956), professor. One of the Vesnin brothers. In 1901 he graduated from the Moscow Practical Academy of Commercial Sciences and began studying at the St. Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineers. In 1904, in the fourth year, they interrupted their studies at the institute for several years. He worked as an assistant to architects, participated in architectural competitions and studied in private art studios (K. F. Yuon, I. O. Dudin, V. E. Tatlin, etc.). From 1919 to 1925 designed the performances: - "Moscow Chamber Theater - "Phaedra" (staged by A. Ya. Tairov, 1922); "The Man Who Was Thursday" by G. K. Chesterton, staged by S. D. Volkonsky, premiered on January 14, 1922),” Moscow Theater for Children - 1921. - the first performance of the new theater was “The Pearl of Adalmina” by Ivan Novikov based on the fairy tale by Z. Topelius, the artist of which was Vesnin, who also designed the costumes. He also became the author of the first emblem of the theater." Since 1923, together with his brothers, he became one of the leaders of Soviet constructivist architecture. In the 1920s he taught at VKHUTEMAS. Together with M. Ya. Ginzburg executive editor of the magazine "Modern Architecture" (1926-1930), editor of the magazine "Soviet Artist".
