Soviet painter, representative of the realism style. Author of landscapes, portraits, as well as genre and historical paintings, mainly on socialist realist themes. In 1930 he graduated from the Leningrad VHUTEIN (now the Repin Institute). Participant of exhibitions since 1930. At the end of the 1920s, he participated in the activities of the Leningrad branch of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AHRR). Since 1935, member of the Leningrad Union of Artists. Regular exhibitor of “Exhibitions of works by Leningrad artists” and regional exhibitions. Many works by artists at such reporting exhibitions were exhibited for the first time and were purchased by art museums, the USSR Art Fund, galleries and collectors. The leading theme of his work is the urban landscape; he paid special attention to the views of Leningrad. Landscape paintings express a lyrical quality. The mood of the landscapes is impressionistic, however, they remain within the framework of the realistic style and are often enlivened by a simple genre motif. In addition to landscapes, Vikulov depicted scenes of factory life, demonstrations, meetings of workers with Communist Party leaders and other scenes reflecting the ideology of the Soviet system.
