Belgian artist who specialized in depicting animal scenes. From 1836 to 1840 he studied at the Kortrijk Academy, under Philippe de Witte, an artist who painted portraits, genre scenes and biblical scenes. After completing his studies in 1840, he studied for six years under the animal painter Lodewijk (Louis Robbe). The artist's works were exhibited at various leading art Salons in cities such as Kortrijk (1841), Brussels (1845-1880), Paris (1855-1878) and Boulogne-sur-Mer (1870). The artist's works are represented in the collections of the Laing Art Gallery (England), the Shipley Art Gallery (England), the Groeninge Museum (Belgium) and other museum and private collections.
