Russian Soviet painter and graphic artist. People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists. Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 1960-1961, after graduating from the institute, he worked on the island of Spitsbergen, writing a series of paintings and the book “Seven Centimeters from the Pole.” Also the author of the book "Kakomey". In 1961, works from the Spitsbergen series were shown at the first personal exhibition in Murmansk. In 1962 he was accepted as a member of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. In the 1960s–1970s, he traveled a lot in the Russian North, visiting the Kola Peninsula, Taimyr, and Chukotka. For a series of works dedicated to the North, he was awarded the silver medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements “For merits in the development of the national economy”, the medal “For the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline” and the State Prize of the RSFSR named after I. Repin. At the turn of the 80s and 90s, Andrei Yakovlev’s works, as part of exhibitions of works by Leningrad artists, were presented to European audiences at a number of foreign exhibitions. In 2004, the State Russian Museum hosted a personal exhibition of the artist dedicated to his 70th anniversary. The works of Andrei Alekseevich Yakovlev are in the State Russian Museum, in museums and private collections in Russia, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, Norway, France and other countries.
