In 1868 he entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, studied with V.G. Perov and K.A. Trutovsky. He worked in the household genre. His paintings were bought by such famous collectors as P.M. Tretyakov and K.S. Soldatenkov. He participated in exhibitions since 1872. For the painting “Murder on the Highway,” Yakovlev received a separate workshop and the right to a monthly stipend. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery and in many regional museums.
