Yakovlev Vasily Nikolaevich (1893, Moscow - 1953, Moscow).

Soviet painter. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1943), member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947). Laureate of the USSR State Prize. Winner of the Stalin Prize. In 1914-1917 studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with K.A. Korovina, S.V. Malyutina. He taught at Vkhutemas (1918-1922) and the Moscow Art Institute. V. I. Surikova (1948-50). Member of the AHRR (since 1922). In 1938–1939 and 1949–1950. served as chief artist of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition. During the Second World War, he created a number of heroic portraits of military leaders, including a portrait of Marshal G.K. Zhukov. Together with P.P. Sokolov-Skalya supervised the restoration of the Sevastopol panorama by F.A. Rubo. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, as well as in many regional museums.
