Boris (Berl) Yankilevsky, born in 1907 in Mariupol, studied at the cheder. In 1917 he left alone for Moscow, graduated from the workers' school, painted a lot, studied in Favorsky's studio, and was very talented. The war interrupted his career as an artist; throughout the war he was at the front and after its end he worked as a designer of trade advertisements (“Drink Zhigulevskoe beer!”) to feed his family.
