Zabelina Alexandra Leonidovna

Artist of decorative and applied arts Zabelina Alexandra Leonidovna was born in 1909 in the family of a lawyer in the city of Torzhok, Tver province. She studied at the Vkhutein - Moscow Textile Institute (1928–1932) at the art department with S. V. Gerasimov and P. P. Pashkov. In 1932 she completed her diploma work - a drawing for silk fabric. In 1953 she visited the workshop of A.V. Fonvizin. In 1934–1959 she worked as an artist at the Moscow silk weaving plant "Red Rose", from 1959 - at the Applied Art Plant of the Moscow branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR. She made drawings (mainly for hand painting) for dress and decorative fabrics. Since the late 1960s she has worked extensively on the interiors of public buildings. For sets of fabrics for the building of the Union of Artists of the USSR and the House of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Plant she was awarded diplomas from the Moscow Artistic Federation of the RSFSR, for the tapestry “Soviet Porcelain” (1970) - a diploma from the Moscow Artistic Association of the RSFSR (1971). In the 1950s and 60s, under the influence of A.V. Fonvizin, she painted easel watercolor still lifes. Since 1931, she has exhibited her works at various exhibitions of art industry, decorative and applied arts, painting, sculpture, graphics, artistic and decorative textiles and ceramics, decorative, etc. Participant in many foreign exhibitions: in Cairo (1956), Rome (1958), Brussels (1958; gold medal), Montreal (1967), Prague (1968). In 1958, together with S. M. Eikelman, she held a personal exhibition in Moscow. An exhibition of the artist’s watercolors was held in Moscow in 2002. His work is represented in a number of museum and private collections.
