Zemtsov Alexander Efimovich

Zemtsov Alexander Efimovich (1856, St. Petersburg - 1896, St. Petersburg).

Studied at the Academy of Arts. He was repeatedly awarded academic medals: Small silver medals for drawings from life in 1877, 1878, 1879. Large silver - in 1880 for the sketch “The Death of the Pharaoh in the Red Sea.” 1881 for the sketch “Cariolanus’s mother, wife and son beg him to spare Rome.” 1883 - small gold medal and the title of class artist of the 2nd degree for the program “Hector reproaches Paris for inaction in the presence of Helen.” In the 1880-1890s. performed drawings for the magazines “World Illustration”, “Picturesque Review”, “Nov” and “Niva”. Illustrated the works of A.S. Pushkin (“Mermaid”, “Queen of Spades”, “Boris Godunov”), M.Yu. Lermontov (“Ashik-Kerib”), L.N. Tolstoy (“War and Peace”), K.F. Ryleeva (“Mstislav Udaloy”). He created works on themes of Russian history. Participated in illustrating the “Large Album to the Works of A.S. Pushkin (St. Petersburg, 1887) and an anniversary album in memory of the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth (St. Petersburg, 1899). The artist’s works are in the State Russian Museum.
