Studied at the Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts in Tartu (Estonia, 1947-1953) with E.Ya. Keats and W.M. Oreshnikova. Even before entering the institute, he was strongly influenced by M.V. Nesterov, with whom he was in personal correspondence (1942). In 1944, Zuev's drawings were exhibited at an exhibition of front-line artists and were noted by N. Altman. In 1946, the artist met with I.E. Grabar. After graduating from the institute, he was sent to work in Kazan, directed a children's art school, and taught at the Kazan Art School. At an exhibition in Moscow in 1957, Zuev was awarded a 1st degree diploma from the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR for his still lifes. In 1964 he was accepted as a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. The artist’s personal exhibitions were repeatedly held in Kazan; in 1999, a personal exhibition was held at the Pushkin Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan. The artist’s works are in the Pushkin Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan, in art museums of Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Volgograd, in private collections in France and the USA, and were sold at auctions at Hotel Drouot in Paris.
