Sovcom Auction House continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a themed auction featuring works by artists spanning the last three centuries of Russian art.
The upcoming auction on October 14th features over 150 works, including the foremost names in classical Russian painting, the most prominent figures of the second half of the 20th century, the Vladimir School, nonconformists, and iconic names in contemporary Russian art.
The auction catalog includes museum-quality masterpieces, including paintings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by Yuli Klever and Ivan Velts, a selection of poetic landscapes featuring iconic Russian views, including Arnold Lakhovsky's snowy Pskov, Mikhail Alisov's Yalta seashore, Viktor Bychkov's Volga landscape, and Ilya Zankovsky's sunset in the Caucasus Mountains. The auction will also feature a section of theatrical graphics, highlighting Nicholas Roerich's sketches for Rimsky-Korsakov's production of "The Snow Maiden" and Alexandre Benois's for the opera "The Queen of Spades."
20th-century Russian art is represented by works by prominent Soviet artists: Boris Shcherbakov, Dmitry Nalbandyan, Yakov Khaimov, Arkady Plastov, Boris Ugarov, Vladimir Stozharov, Sergei Gerasimov, Mikhail Abakumov, Taras Gaponenko, and Nikolai Romadin.
Particularly noteworthy are the works of the main founders of the Severe Style: Geliy Korzhev, Viktor Popkov, Igor Obrosov, Pyotr Ossovsky, and Andrei Vasnetsov and of the Vladimir School of Painting: Vladimir Yukin, Kim Britov, and Valery Kokurin, as well as their followers. The nonconformist section is well represented at the auction, featuring works by Oleg Tselkov, Vladimir Weisberg, Ernst Neizvestny, Dmitry Plavinsky, Anatoly Zverev, Oskar Rabin, Vladimir Nemukhin, and Lidiya Masterkova.
