Auction No. 196 will be held on November 27 at 19:00. Russian, Soviet, and modern art.

On November 27, Sovcom Auction House will hold its 196th auction. The sale will feature paintings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a string of paintings and graphic works in the Severe Style, a selection of poetic landscapes and floral still lifes, and decorative and applied art. Particularly noteworthy at the upcoming auction are works by leading exponents of the Severe Style—Nikolai Andronov, Igor Obrosov, and Pyotr Ossovsky. As always, the auction house's catalog includes works by artists of the Vladimir School of Painting, such as Kim Britov, Valery Kokurin, and Yuri Matushevsky.

One of the auction's highlights is Boris Izrailevich Anisfeld's "Flowers by the Window," a work of unquestionably museum quality. The work is accompanied by an expert opinion from the I.E. Repin Art Expertise Center. Anisfeld's 1925 painting, offered at the November auction, is one of the finest examples of the artist's mature period, his "American" period. The work at the auction is a staged still life, the master's favorite genre. Its sweeping brushstrokes, rich texture, and masterful use of color combinations are characteristic of Boris Izrailevich's paintings. This work comes from the collection of Boris's grandson and is included in the artist's catalogue raisonné.

The auction catalogue highlights works by Alexander Evgenievich Yakovlev, "Hammam. Tunisia" and "Shield Exercise. Zur-Khan Wrestling," completed in the 1930s during the second Citroën expedition along the old Silk Road from Beirut to Beijing. Yakovlev was part of one of the groups traveling to Mongolia and China. The works are of undoubted museum significance.

At the end of the auction, bidders will be treated to a selection of works by nonconformists and contemporary Russian artists, including works by Natalia Nesterova, Zurab Tsereteli, Dmitry Vrubel, Rustam Khamdamov, and others.

The pre-auction exhibition will be held from November 10 to November 26 at st. Shchepkina, 28.

Viewing time on weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00, on weekends from 11:00 to 17:00.
