Russian artist-painter from the “Jack of Diamonds” circle. Visited the studios of L.E. Dmitriev-Kavkazsky (1902–1910) in St. Petersburg and K.F. Yuon (1904–1906) in Moscow, studied at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1906–1910). In 1913–1914. traveled to Italy and France. Experienced the deep influence of P. Cezanne's art. He was a member and one of the organizers of the “Jack of Diamonds” association (since 1910), and was influenced by the painting of I.I. Mashkova. He was one of the most consistent Russian Cézanne artists. He was a member of the “Moscow Painters” and “Society of Moscow Artists” associations. In the second half of the 1910s - 1920s. Cubist tendencies become noticeable in the artist’s works. Since the 1930s. Kuprin works mainly in the genre of landscape, paints views of the Crimea, industrial landscapes. He taught at the Free Art Workshops of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Sormovo (1918–1922), at VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN, at the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial School and other institutes until 1952. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, in many regional museums and private collections.
